EVENTS 2018

Club walk on Wednesday 11th April 2018
to start at car park opposite the Outwood Windmill at 11.00am sharp.
(reorganised for Wednesday 25 April 2018)
Ian Bowring has organised an easy going walk of approximately two and a half miles, mostly on bridal ways and rolling farmland with fine views. The second half of April is the best for bluebells and this is one of the best parts of Surrey for them.
Ian Bowring, who lives in the area and will happily point out some of the interesting parts you would not normaliy find. There are few stiles at the end of the walk but not impossible ones. There will be plenty of help if needed! Boots are recommended with warm clothing.
We can have lunch at the Bell in Outwood if you wish, however depending upon the numbers we may not all be able to sit together at one table.
If you are interested in this walk please contact Ian Bowring.
Since this event is planned for the day after our regular monthly meeting, it is anticipated that at this time the weather for the following day can be assessed to determine whether the event can proceed as planned.

Proposed Probus Holiday 2019 to
Pines Hotel, Swanage
CANCELLED
Date: week beginning Monday, May 20, 2019
Duration: 4 nights, returning Friday, May 24, 2019
Location: Pines Hotel, Burlington Road, Swanage, Dorset BH19 1LT
Accommodation: Dinner, bed & breakfast for 4 nights
Accommodation:
The Pines Hotel has the following rooms:
-
8 x double = 16 people
-
5 x twin = 10 people
-
2 x single = 2 people
-
4 x family suites – Shared front door, corridor & bathroom but with two separate bedrooms, to be used as single = 8 people. This would mean two people sharing a bathroom.
We will do our best to meet people’s preferred type of room, but it may be necessary to amend that. Please note in particular that, if we have a number of “singles”, it may be necessary for some to share a bathroom. In this case, we would try to meet people’s preferences, e.g. sharing with a friend.
Transport: 40 seater coach
-
pick up and return between Horley and Swanage on first and fifth days (plus trips in the Swanage area)
-
comfort stop about half way between Horley & Swanage and return, also lunch stop on way to Swanage
Potential outings. The provisional itinerary would be:
-
Monday 20th – depart Horley 10 a.m. - Pines Hotel
-
Tuesday 21st – depart hotel 10 a.m. to railway and Corfe Castle, all day
-
Wednesday 22nd – depart hotel at 10 a.m. for Abbotsbury visit, all day
-
Thursday 23rd – depart hotel for Kingston Lacy – all day visit
-
Friday 24th – depart hotel 10 a.m. for return to Horley
-
As an alternative to any of the day visits, the coach would take people to Swanage Pier, where they can take a cruise to Poole Harbour, which takes about an hour and allows 2-5 hours in Poole; the coach would pick them up on return; the cost for the ferry is currently £13.50 pp
Estimated costs:
-
The minimum viable number will be 30 people. With this number, the expected cost is £499 per person
-
There is a possibility of a slightly lower price if we get 36 people (the maximum the hotel can take), but that would depend on how rooms are allocated; if applicable, this would be dealt with as a rebate after the holiday.
-
the above costs would include entrance to Corfe Castle, Swanage Steam Railway, Abbottsbury Swannery & Gardens and Kingston Lacy – for non-NT members there will be an additional charge for Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacey
-
no supplement for single rooms.
The above prices assume National Trust membership. Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacy are NT properties so non-NT members will need to add an additional sum at the prevailing 2019 group rates – to be advised later.
A deposit of £80 pp will be required in December 2018 with the final balance due by 20th March 2019.
It is essential that members possess travel insurance, as Probus Club cannot accept responsibility for losses due to cancellation of bookings. This can be obtained from the Group Travel organiser for £15 pp for this trip.
